Historical Commission
Minutes
July 15, 2009

VII. Executive Director's Report:
A. Meredyth Muth asked whether the Historical Commission would be willing to
consider paying for a new public sign for the Museum given the deterioration of
the old sign and the City's current budget limitations. Before obtaining an exact
quote for a sign that would be consistent with other signs used for City facilities,
she was inquiring as to whether the Commission would be willing to consider
this proposal. She stated that a new sign could cost approximately $5000 to
$8000 for a new two-sided sign that would replace the old freestanding sign on
Main Street. Sally Burlingame expressed concern that the Jordinelli House was
still not open to the public. Meredyth Muth explained that Jordinelli House would
be considered a "new program" by the City, and new programs are not currently
being considered due to the budget situation. Bridget Bacon noted that as
recommended in the 2005 Conservation Assessment Report that was done on
the Museum, the Museum is in need of additional storage space, and this is
something that can be worked on now to help prepare the Jordinelli House.
Meredyth Muth suggested that the Commission have a tour of the Jordinelli
House just prior to the August meeting. All members approved of the suggestion
but decided against obtaining quotes on a new Museum sign.

B. Meredyth Muth mentioned the upcoming annual study session for the Historical
Commission to meet with City Council, to be held August 11 at 7:00 pm at the
library.

C. Meredyth Muth noted the Executive Director's Written Report attached to the
agenda, and asked if there would be any volunteers to work at the finish line at
the Coal Creek Crossing Race to be held 8-10 am on Labor Day at Community
Park. The Historical Commission is among the community organizations that
benefit from this fundraiser.

VIII. Museum Coordinator's Report:
A. Bridget Bacon stated that there is a good possibility that the old movie curtain
from the movie theater that historically was located in the Senor T's Restaurant
building will be donated to the Museum, and she has been in communication
with the potential donors. She thanked the present and past Commission
members who have helped this come about. The size and condition of the
curtain present some issues relating to its display and preservation. Two
museum collections experts in the area have volunteered to look at the curtain
and Bridget will be making arrangements for them to do so.
B. Deeds of Gifts - The Commission accepted the following donations to the
Museum from the past three months on a motion of Sean Moynihan:
. Jeffrey Romeo - Winchester rifle associated with the strike conflict of 1914
. Shirley Bodhaine - Louisville Times newspaper, 1951
. Pat Cartwright - Louisville High School yearbooks, 1950-53
. John Madonna - his Navy uniform and rationing documents from WWII
. Lois Tesone - Ten issues of The Lookout school newspaper, 1947-48, and
family histories of the Tesone and Chiolino families
. Ruth Mayor - program for a 1941 meeting of the Rainbow Girls
. William Dhieux - map showing Boulder County coal mines
