-DRAFT-

City of Louisville
Water Conservation Plan

Summary:

The City of Louisville's Water Conservation Plan highlights current and future
measures that the City implements to insure that the City utilizes best practices, now
and in the future, to wisely manage the City's water resources. The Plan also
address the regulatory requirements of 937-60-126 C.RS.

Conservation practices and acquisition of lands for n space reduced
the City's ultimate demand from a high of 10,026 acr (AF) to t e current
forecast demand of 7,120 acre-feet. Some conse ractices can result in
significant water savings and are easily measurable e leaks, utilization of
reuse, improved irrigation efficiencies on large ), etc. These
previously implemented practices have sa e-feet of water
annually, on average. The effectiveness 0 rvation ractices; including
education, rebates, rate structures, etc., are ifficult to measure. These
practices, while difficult to measure eir individu tiveness, appear to have
some impact on the reduction of de as sho the generally downward
trend of citywide gallons-per-capita-pe 1992, a five-year average of
citywide demands was 235 gpcd by t ear average of demands was
reduced to 193 gpcd. This es to a tained eighteen percent drop in citywide
gpcd. Similar trends n in t arious customer types; residential,
multifamily, commerci tail, . ,and irrigation, from before and after the
2002 drought. While the gnificant positive downward trend, some of
this trend could in residential/commercial makeup within the
City, recent c nd memory of the recent drought. As Louisville
continues t ot nd dry year, and as people's memory of the 2002
drought fades I ome of the recent reductions in usage may disappear.

The purpose this Water Conservation Plan, through the continued
utilization of curren measures and implementation of future measures, is to
maintain nt gains, reduce impacts of future development, keep citywide gpcd
and usa by individual customer types consistent with neighboring entities, and
compile data for determining the effectiveness of Plan measures. It is believed that
through the continued use of this Plan and as new programs are developed and
implemented an additional savings of 5.0 percent is significant, yet realistic over the
coming years.

2

City of Louisville

Water Conservation Plan
