Louisville City Council Meeting September 17,2002 Page 2 PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA Galen Smith, 2129 Dogwood Circle, Louisville, CO, addressed his concern relative to the increased number of motorized scooters on City streets, sidewalks and bike paths. He reported witnessing many scooter riders along Centennial Drive. He spoke to several of the riders and was told that many of the riders are residents of other communities who come to Louisville because there are no local restrictions. He asked Council to consider regulating scooters in Louisville. Thomas Howard, 944 St Andrews Lane, Louisville, CO, addressed the traffic problems along St. Andrews Lane. He stated that many people use the southern portion of St. Andrews Lane as a shortcut to Monarch School. He explained that St. Andrews Lane is a residential area and the increased traffic poses a threat to young children playing in the neighborhood. He noted that he has difficulty getting out of his driveway due to the number of cars traveling along St. Andrews Lane. He asked Council to consider installing speed bumps along St. Andrews to slow down the speeding cars. Frosty Woolridge, 1458 Ford Place, Louisville, CO, thanked Council for adopting an ordinance restricting smoking in public places. COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL COMMENTS ON PERTINENT ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA Brown commented on the motorized scooter issue and suggested that Council investigate how other communities have addressed the problem. He encouraged Ward III residents to attend the October 8, 2002 Ward meeting, and stated that neighborhood concerns, such as the St. Andrews Lane traffic issue, could also be discussed at that time. Mayer addressed the St. Andrews Lane traffic issue, and suggested that Council approach the School District about implementing double left hand turn lanes at Campus Drive. He stated that solution would be less expensive than installing speed bumps. He asked City Manager Bill Simmons to contact the school district. City Manager Bill Simmons stated that he would ask the Public Works Department to investigate the feasibility of the double left hand turn lanes and other improvements at Campus Drive. Sisk reported on the September 11 th ceremony, held at Memory Square Park. He thanked the Chamber of Commerce, the VFW, the City of Louisville, the American Legion, the Elks Club #2541 and Monarch High School band. He noted that it was a very solemn and stirring ceremony that was very well attended by members of the community. He urged Council to consider making this an annual event. 2
