Lathrop agreed with Howard and Mayer on the parking issue. He liked the look of the building, but took exception to the height and appearance from the north/south elevations. He feels the building is too massive. Levihn agreed with the previous Council comments. He feels buildings are being put ahead of the plan for downtown. He wanted the plan developed first. Sisk reported that he and Keany recently hosted a Ward I meeting and a number of unfavorable comments were made regarding the three-story building downtown. Parking issues were also discussed. Keany agreed with Council's comments. He feels a three-story building would look out of place and a two-story would make a better fit for this area. Davidson commended Ruskus for her commitment to downtown Louisville and Hartronft for his building design. He feels that there are three issues: "parking, parking, and parking." He stated that, historically, Louisville has provided some parking for retail customers only. Sisk moved that Council move this on to the Planning Commission, seconded by Levihn. All in favor. DISCUSSION/DIRECTION - FINAL pun DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR LOUISVILLE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT - STATION EXPANSION AT 895 W. VIA APPIA BLVD. Davidson called for staff introduction. Paul Wood, Planning Director, explained that the Fire District proposes to build a 5,800 s.f., five-bay garage addition to the existing structure and remodel the existing garage space into administrative, meeting, training, and future dormitory space. Louisville Fire Station No.2 is located on Via Appia, across from the Recreation Center. A 100' wide by 95' long patterned concrete driveway is proposed to access the new five-bay garage. The applicant proposes to increase the median cut from the current 51' opening to an optimum 101' opening for ingress/egress of fire' apparatuses. A minimum 71' median cut is required. Staffhas expressed concern about the breadth of the median cut on Via Appia and the possibility that the large glass doors might produce nuisance or dangerous glare. No landscaping has been propc>sed for the driveway. Davidson called for the Fire District's comments. Greg McMenamim, McMenamimlDavis Architects, 1810 South Clarkson, Denver, Colorado, pointed out that the glass doors are for passive solar and would be aesthetically appealing. He feels the standing-seam metal roof would blend well with the Recreation Center across the street. He explained that modifying the median cut on Via Appia was to allow maneuvering Fire Department 10
