COUNCIL COMMUNICATION TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: WILLIAM A. SIMMONS CITY ADMINISTRATOR DATE: February 16, 1999 SUBJECT: Resolution No. 4, Series 1999- Reconsider Resolution No. 4, 1999, Titled A Resolution Approving an Amended Final PUD Development Plan for a Modified Sign Program for Rite Aid, Lot 2, Centennial Valley, Parcel L1,Replat" (published Daily Camera 2/6/99). ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: Planning BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY: Rite Aid received authorization from City Council for an Amended Final PUD Development Plan to modify an existing sign program at 525 South McCaslin Boulevard. Resolution No. 4, Series 1999 was approved with the following three conditions: 1. That two `Drive Thru Pharmacy' directional signs are authorized as requested. One sign may remain which has been installed at the northwest corner of the site, and the second sign may be installed at the northeast corner of the site; and 2. That the two existing, surface mounted fluorescent light fixtures located on the drive through pharmacy canopy shall be removed and recessed light fixtures installed flush with the canopy ceiling. A detail of the light fixture shall be added to the Amended Final PUD plans. 3. All lighted window signs shall be removed from the building. Lighted window signs shall be prohibited on the building. The primary purpose of the PUD amendment was for authorization to install additional wall signage with text reading "Pharmacy" below the two existing, approved "Rite Aid" signs. The "Pharmacy" sign would have 13- inch high letters, 9 -feet 1 -inch in length and be constructed with individually illuminated, pan channel letters with white faces and blue returns. At the February 2, 1999 regularly scheduled City Council meeting, a motion was passed requesting reconsideration of Resolution No. 4, Series 1999 at the February 16, 1999 regularly scheduled City Council meeting. Rite -Aid has been contacted and a representative will be available at the Council meeting for questions and comments. RECOMMENDATION: If City Council desires to affirm Resolution No. 4, Series 1999, an Amended Final PUD Development Plan for Rite Aid, ACCEPT A MOTION TO AFFIRM RESOLUTION NO. 4, SERIES 1999. If Council wishes to add conditions, repeal or take other action prescribed by law with regard to Resolution No. 4, Series 1999, it should be noted in the motion.
