SIMMONS <br />CITY ADMINISTRATOR <br />DATE: April 15, 1997 <br />SUBJECT: Bid Award: 1997 Concrete Replacement Project <br />ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: Public Works <br />SUMMARY: <br />COUNCIL, COMMUNICATION <br />The bid opening for the 1997 Concrete Replacement Project occurred on April 8, 1997. Bidding documents <br />were purchased by three prequalified contractors however, only one contractor submitted a proposal for the <br />work. The other concrete contractors were contacted and they declined to submit a bid because of their <br />respective work loads and personnel. The bid submitted by S D Construction for $177, 281.50 is below the <br />Engineer's Estimateof $184,717. Unit prices are approximately 5% greater than last year's project which is <br />reasonable considering the status of the construction industry in Colorado. <br />The project includes replacement of broken and deteriorating concrete at various locations throughout the City, <br />construction of the Sycamore Trail Connection and construction of curb ramps as part of the ADA ramp <br />program. Funding for the project is budgeted in the Capital Projects Fund (sidewalks) and the Conservation <br />Trust Lottery Fund (Sycamore Trail Connection). <br />When staff estimated the cost of work for sidewalks and ADA ramps, prior to bid, the value placed on concrete <br />replacement was conservative. Considering the actual bid amount, additional concrete replacement can be <br />attained by utilizing remaining budget funds. A budget summary is attached. <br />The project is scheduled to begin in mid May and should be completed by early August. <br />RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that Council award the 1997 Concrete Replacement Project <br />to S D Construction Co. in the amount of $177,281.50 per their unit price bid, authorize the Mayor to execute <br />the contract and authorize staff to execute contract change orders up to the budget amount for additional work. <br />I: SUBJECT AGENDA ITEM <br />Bid Award: 1997 Concrete Replacement Project <br />3C <br />
