TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: WILLIAM A. SIMMONS
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
DATE: May 20, 1997
SUBJECT: Bid Award Tennis Courts
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: PARKS AND RECREATION
SUMMARY: Funds have been budgeted for the addition of two post tension concrete courts in 1997. At
the Council Work Session, staff informed council the installation of the courts at the Recreation Center had
become cost prohibitive. Staff has obtained estimates of $65,000 to $85,000 to rectify drainage concerns at
the court site near the Recreation Center.
Malott, Peterson, Renner, Inc. (MPR) bid the court installation, at the Recreation Center at $86,909. MPR
was the only project bidder. MPR also installed the four existing courts at the center and has resurfaced all
of the city's tennis courts.
Based on the unanticipated drainage costs at the Recreation Center, staff recommended another site be
chosen for the courts. Working with representatives from Centennial Valley Tennis Association (CVTA),
Centennial Park was chosen as the best alternate site for the court installation. This site was chosen
because of available land, the existing courts already in place at the site, available parking and the minimal
impact the courts would provide to the neighborhood.
MPR has estimated the court installation at Centennial Park to be $91,608. The budget for the courts is
$80,000. Within the 1997 budget $32,000 has been approved for resurfacing the existing courts at the
Recreation Center. The bids for the resurfacing has been awarded to MPR for $13,800. In total the two
projects will be $6,000 under budget.
RECOMMENDATION: Award bid to MPR for $91,608 for construction of two post tension concrete courts
at Centennial Park.
SUBJECT AGENDA ITEM
AWARD BID TENNIS COURTS
3C
