Memorandum <br />To: Mayor and City Council <br />From: Historic Preservation Commission <br />Date: February 24, 2009 <br />Re: 2008 Accomplishments and 2009 Work Plan <br />2008 Accomplishments <br />The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) had a very busy year in 2008. A list of <br />the Commission's accomplishments includes: <br />Public Hearings: <br />o Landmark Application —1116 LaFarge Avenue <br />o Demolition Request —1024 LaFarge Avenue (demolition stay placed <br />on property, stay now expired, home expected to be demolished) <br />o Demolition Request 944 Garfield Avenue (demolition stay placed on <br />property, stay expired and home demolished in December) <br />o 824 South Place (demolition stay placed on property, stay expired but <br />no immediate plans to demolish the property) <br />o 1800 Hecla Drive Hecla Mine Casino (demolition stay currently on <br />the property, HPC members looking for location to which the building <br />can be moved and preserved) <br />Demolition Reviews: <br />o 944 Garfield Avenue <br />o 1308 Grant Avenue <br />o 1024 LaFarge Avenue <br />o 1116 LaFarge Avenue <br />o 1237 LaFarge Avenue <br />o 1200 Main Street (Garage) <br />o 824 South Place <br />o 720 West Street <br />Discussions /meetings with BVSD to reconsider the decision to raze historic <br />Louisville Middle School. <br />Discussions with the owner and architect for 836 844 Main Street regarding <br />the building site and specific items of historic and architectural importance. <br />Work on the amendment to the Preservation Ordinance to clarify how a <br />demolition review can be accomplished. (The City Council approved the <br />amendment on July 15, 2008.) Changes to the ordinance include: <br />o Demolition review can be triggered by formally submitting a demolition <br />permit request (as originally written); <br />
