FUTURE OF DOWNTOWN PARKING
The parking study revealed what many people already assumed; there is not a
parking problem downtown. As additional square footage is added to the
downtown area it will be important to monitor how parking is managed in the
downtown area. Over the coming years staff recommends developing a
downtown parking management strategy which could potentially include the
following elements:
1. A neighborhood parking permit process to prevent downtown visitors
from parking on residential streets
2. A plan for future public parking locations including the Post Office site.
3. Increased enforcement of parking regulations.
4. A paid parking strategy for downtown.
5. Transportation Demand Management (TDM) practices including
allowing parking reductions for the provision of ECO passes for all
employees within a development.
RECOMMENDED MOTION
Staff recommends that planning commission approve Resolution No. 11, Series
2009, a resolution recommending amendments to Chapter 17.20 (Off Street
Parking and Loading) and Chapter 17.12 (District Regulations) of the Louisville
Municipal Code, as well as Chapter 5 of the Downtown Louisville Framework
Plan.
ATTACHMENTS
1.
