45. <br /> <br />46. <br /> <br />47. <br /> <br />48. <br /> <br />49. <br /> <br />50. <br /> <br />51. <br /> <br />Potential contributor means industries which may be classified as categorical <br />industries and the nature of their processes are such that priority pollutants are not <br />discharged under normal operations. This includes anyone storing hazardous <br />materials as defined in this chapter. <br /> <br />Pretreatment or treatment means the reduction of the amount of pollutants, the <br />elimination of pollutants, or the alteration of the nature of pollutant properties in <br />wastewater tea !ess ho~'-znfu! st°Se prior to or in lieu of discharging or otherwise <br />introducing such pollutants into a POTW. The reduction or alteration can be <br />obtained by physical, chemical or biological processes or other means, except as <br />prohibited by §403.6(d). Appropriate pretreatment technology includes control <br />equipment, such as equalization tanks or facilities, for protection against surges or <br />slug loadings that might interfere with or otherwise be incompatible with the <br />POTW. However, where wastewater from a regulated process is mixed in an <br />equalization facility with unregulated wastewater or with wastewater from another <br />regulated process, the effluent from the equalization facility must meet an <br />adjusted pretreatment limit calculated in accordance with §403.6(e). <br /> <br />Pretreatment requirements means any substantive or procedural requirement <br />related to pretreatment, other than a National categorical pretreatment standard <br />imposed on an industrial user. o,.a o~.~n ~,.~h,~ .... ~;,; .... r ...... , ..... ,ow <br /> <br />Pretreatment standard~ or National pretreatment standard, or standard means ag <br />~,,...~.~r,~, r,~,~,~ ,.,~ .... ,~ any regulation containing pollutant disch~ge limits <br />promulgmed by EPA in accordance with section 307 (b) ~d (c) of the act, which <br />applies to Indus~ial Users. ~is te~ includes prohibitive disch~ge limits <br />established p~su~t to ~ 403.5. ~ .... ~,~,o ~ .... ,~.. e~,~. ~a~ ~v,~ ~ ~ <br /> <br />Priority pollutants means any of the various toxic compounds that can reasonably <br />be expected in the discharges from industries as determined by the EPA, pursuant <br />to section 307(a) of the Act (33 USC {}1317(a)). <br /> <br />Private sewage disposal system means any sewage disposal system other than <br />public facilities, such as privies, privy vaults, septic tanks, soil absorption <br />systems, cesspools, chemical toilets, package treatment plants or similar facilities <br />which receive or are intended to receive wastewater and which are not connected <br />to the POTW; but this term shall not include any treatment plant which has a valid <br />NPDES permit. <br /> <br />Publicly owned treatment works (POTW) means a treatment works as defined by <br />Section 212 of the Act, (33 USC {}1292) which is owned in this instance by the <br />city. This definition includes any sewers that convey wastewater to the POTW <br /> <br /> <br />
