Planning Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />NOVEMBER 12, 2009 <br />Page 5 of 8 <br />Pritchard stated the SF increase is not an issue of character. <br />Loo stated the demand would stop when the citizens speak up. <br />Lipton reviewed his previous experience with the current cap that was <br />established approximately eleven (11) years ago. At that time a number was <br />picked that felt comfortable with the Planning Commission and City Council. The <br />current available parking will accommodate development up to the 475,000 SF. <br />Pritchard stated he favors the increase to 475,000 SF. <br />Tengler also stated he favors the increase. <br />Sheets stated she does not favor the increase. <br />Pritchard stated this is not just a parking issue. Without the increase we are <br />looking at closing down future development for downtown. <br />Lipton stated the 354,000 SF is too low and suggested a vote on this issue. <br />Lipton moved and Loo seconded a motion to increase the square footage cap for <br />downtown from 354,000 SF to 475,000 SF. <br />Roll Call Vote: <br />Name <br />Jeff Lipton Yes <br />Chris Pritchard Yes <br />Susan S. Loo Yes <br />Gail Hartman No <br />Monica Sheets No <br />Cary Tengler Yes <br />Scott Russell Absent <br />Motion passed: 4:2 <br /> <br />Commission Questions regarding Policy Recommendation #2 <br />Lipton requested a discussion of the staff policy recommendation #2 regarding <br />the reduction in the parking requirement to 1 space per 500 SF of development. <br />Loo asked if a one-bedroom unit implied a single person and not a couple <br />McMillan stated not necessarily. <br />Tengler stated he had question regarding Note #1 and the use of “minimum” vs. <br />“maximum”. <br />Wood stated the original parking recommendation referenced minimum and <br />maximum. The maximum was used to encourage shared parking. <br />Public Hearing Closed Commission Comments: <br />Sheets stated the number of spaces would be adequate. <br />Tengler, Pritchard, Lipton, Loo and Hartman stated their support for the reduction <br />in parking requirements to 1 space per 500 SF of development. <br /> <br />
