Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
October 19, 2009

Lewis recommended for staff to speak with the owner and notify them of the
funding incentives available for rehabilitation.
Stewart agreed with Lewis and added the owner should be invited to the next
meeting for a discussion with HPC.
McCartney stated he would call the owner and then write a letter to further
explain the incentives available.
Update/Discussion/Action – Architectural Survey
Stewart gave an update of the work he has been doing on the architectural
survey. He stated the survey should be updated and completed to comply with
the building rating system sub categories shown on Page 51 of the Design
Handbook.
Stewart stated the survey could either be paid for by the HPF or the HPC could
reapply to the SHPO for a grant.
Koertje stated he had a conversation with Dan Corson at SHPO who
recommended the Commission reapply.
Committee Reports

Community Outreach
Jean Morgan recommended to the Commission there should be handouts
regarding the Incentive Program at the hometour sites this year. Morgan
recommended pamphlets should be at the Church and information on the
website.
Design Assistance
Lewis explained her past work with two applicants interested in the incentive
program.
Old Town Historic District
Stewart stated the mapping is the most important component of this project.
The Commission directed staff to work with City of Louisville GIS Coordinator
(Susan Dellinger) to get the maps completed.
Update on Demolition Requests – 1040 Lafarge - garage
McCartney gave a brief presentation on the sub-committee’s review of the
request to demolish the existing garage. The sub-committee found the garage
did not have enough architectural integrity to warrant a stay, so the permit was
released.
Williams stated he was hoping the Commission would have a chance to speak
with the owner so the Commission could review the proposed plans.
McCartney stated he has been in contact with the owner and she is not ready to
meet with the Commission but might be able to do so in January.
Lewis stated she would be interested in speaking with the owner to provide
design assistance. Lewis brought up the possibility for a Conservation
Easement.
