Louisville Open Space - Alternative Usage 1. Current Open Space Categories: a. Preserve, b. Protect, c. Visitor, d. And Other 2. Concept: a. Alternate uses for Parcels that neither: 1. Have indigenous plant life, 11. Have riparian qualities, 111. Support a diverse wildlife habitat iv. Have substantive vistas or view corridors b. New approved usage for the benefit of the City and ultimately of the city's residence. i. Power generation 1. Solar 2. Wind 3. Geothermal 4. Bio plant production 5. Yet undiscovered 11. Eco balance 1. Carbon capture 2. Yet undiscovered 3. Reasons to create alternatives uses: a. The city of Louisville needs to be more energy self sufficient in the future and pollute less and use less of the worlds resources to truly be a green community. b. As a community, our efforts to protecting parcels ofland in a more natural state, by incorporating chosen land into our Open Space conservation could within 2 generation become meaningless; if the community continues to pollute in a manner that slowly is eroding our environment and the very habitat we meant to protect. c. Expenses to maintain Open Space continue to escalate and will not abate: 1. Re-vegetate damage areas 2. Maintain trails 3. Employ staff 4. Prairie dog control efforts 5. Other d. Citizens will not always have an open wallet to maintain vast amounts of land in Open Space 1. We must start now to find means for Open Space to become: 1. Cost neutral to the community. 2. Generate revenue for city 3. Save the city money in offsets e. Protect Open Space for future generations by: i. Setting in motion a systems that: 1. Insure Open Space is cost neutral to the citizens of Louisville 11. We insure the long-term viability of our City owning and operation public lands in the Open Space conservation. 4. Process a.
