<br />BRaD <br />Study Session Summary <br />December 7,2009 <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />Anthem, which is their current project, is a layering of the Metro Tax District and <br />the Urban Renewal Authority. Staff and member discussed the various aspects <br />of the development. <br /> <br />Future Utility Provision <br /> <br />Members discussed the difficulty of getting Excel's attention to address power <br />issues for new development. Hiring a consultant is a possible strategy. At this <br />time power is not problematic for exiting business, but additional power is <br />necessary for future expansion and development. Members discussed having <br />Excel provide a presentation on the various factors involved in adding power. <br />One issue is the lengthy response time from Excel. Power should be kept on the <br />radar and the constraints of the power structure monitored. <br /> <br />2010 Work Plan <br /> <br />Bonnie presented an overview of the 2010 work-plan with year long and quarterly <br />goals. Members and Staff discussed the value of the ICS trip and other options <br />that would make sense for business development. A goal setting process was <br />suggested for setting priorities in 2010. Members indicated that incentive <br />packages and business retention are top priorities. Bonnie asked for e-mail, <br />comments, suggestions, and ideas prior to the next meeting. <br /> <br />Downtown Square Footage Cap <br /> <br />Planning Commission is recommending an increase from 354 to 475 square feet <br />and a reduction in the parking requirements. <br /> <br />*A motion was made to approve the recommendation of the cap increase. <br />Committee members approved, with Bob Muckle abstaining. <br /> <br />RETENTION VISIT REPORTS - None <br /> <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BRIEFING <br /> <br />Bonnie discussed the CEO breakfast and criteria in the program for business <br />assistance packages. An overview of the status of various businesses was <br />provided. The Economic Development department has been busy and expects a <br />dramatic increase when the economy turns which may indicate a need for <br />additional staff.
