Wood stated that staffhas evaluated photometrics and the applicant is correct that illumination levels
under the Porte cochere were not measured under previous PUDs. Staff feels that LaQuinta provides
the highest level of footcandles, but still does not exceed the gas-pumping aisle and canopy standard.

Sisk felt that an objective standard be established for such lighting and suggested the lowest level
currently in place in the development as the standard.

Howard agreed with Sisk.

Patel stated he would agree to that level.

Mayer and Howard asked to see the wall sign previously proposed.

Keany stated that he felt it was unfair to penalize the applicant for being up-front in providing
information about the lighting under the canopy entrance when other applicants have not provided
this information. He suggested revising the wall sign by placing the circle logo on the gable and
moving the lettering back down onto the side wall. He complimented the applicant for addressing
Council concerns in the redesign.

Levihn felt that the applicant has put a tremendous amount of work into revising the project and
encouraged staff to work together with the applicant to reach an agreement on photometrics.

Howard moved that Council approve Resolution No. 34, Series 1998 - Final PUD Development Plan
for Quality Inn and Suites, Lot 2, Centennial Valley, Parcel H with the following amendments: that
staff determine the appropriate lighting for the Porte cochere to be the lowest of the existing hotels
on the site, and that it would be noted on the PUD plans that proposed flags would be either official
U.S. or Colorado State flags, seconded by Levihn.

Keany offered a friendly amendment that the uplights along the west side of the building be
eliminated, accepted by Howard and Levihn.

Sisk offered a friendly amendment that the Quality Inn symbol and lettering sign be taken offthe
gable over the main entry, relocated to the building wall immediately south of the Porte cochere, and
a brick treatment applied in its place, accepted by Howard and Levihn.

Roll call was taken. Motion passed by a 6-1 vote, with Davidson voting against.

12
