Although the details have not all been
worked out, the topics and speakers are tentatively scheduled to be as follows,
though not necessarily in this order or exactly titled this way:

How to Research Your Historic Property (Bridget Bacon)
Benefits of the Louisville Historic Preservation Fund (Mike?)
Local Zoning Incentives for Historic Properties (Heather Lewis)
State Tax Credits & the State Historic Fund (to be determined)
The Process and Criteria for Applying for Local Landmark Status (to be
determined)
The Property Owner's Perspective (John Leary)

We briefly discussed the concept of the workshop with City Council at the Study
Session on February 23, 2010, and the comments were supportive. While there
is a small group working on the details of the workshop, please feel free to offer
additional suggestions.

There has been a suggestion that the HPC recommend and ask Council to adopt
certain automatic benefits for owners of landmarks from the Historic Preservation
Fund (HPF). Examples would include a $1000 automatic grant simply for
landmarking a property, and/or automatic eligibility for a grant of up to $5000 for
qualified projects. As it would be helpful to know whether or not these additional
benefits exist at the time of the May 8 workshop, please be prepared to discuss
this concept at our March 15 meeting, so that we could make any
recommendation to Council in short order and they could take action prior to May
8.
