MAYOR'S CALL TO ACTION
Continued from page 1
prised primarily of Louisville and Superior students.
This is our community and events should be held on our
campus.
So what can be done? I am calling on Chris King, Su-
perintendent of the Boulder Valley School District, Ken
Roberge, President of the Boulder Valley School Board,
Andrew Muckle, Mayor of Superior, and Jerry Anderson,
Principal of Monarch High School, to join me in orga-
nizing a way to make this happen. We need all hands on
deck and a combination of private and public funding to
make this a reality.
As all of you know, I cherish our community and
Monarch High School occupies a prominent part of our
community. It is also one of the many positive aspects
we share with the Town of Superior. So I call on the
2010 SERVICE REDUCTIONS
Continued from page 1
• Eliminating Louisville's participation in the
Boulder County Youth Corps program
• Eliminating fall curbside leaf pick -up
(but retaining drop -off locations)
• Eliminating the Shop Louisville program
• Reducing expenditures for various special events
• Eliminating grants to non -profit agencies
• Reducing the hours at the Historical Museum
• Closing the Glen Huey Recycling Center
• Eliminating the gymnastics program at the
Recreation Center
• Closing the branch recycle site
(see page 4 for additional details)
• Staff reductions:
• Leaving a position vacant in the
Police Department
• Eliminating a position in Aquatics
Reducing hours for positions in the
Building Safety Division, the Historical
Museum, Parks and Recreation, Human
Resources, the City Clerk /Court, and the
Public Works Operations Division
Monarch community to join me in making this a real-
ity!!
On a second note, I would like to invite all of you to
come on the Annual Holiday Home Tour on December
5th (event details are on page 7). This is one of the many
ways you can enjoy the character of Historic Louisville.
The preservation, rehabilitation, and character of of
the homes and commerical buildings in Old Town Lou-
isville is part of what makes our community great. If you
own an older building, I encourage you to find out more
about the incentives the City offers for preservation and
rehabilitation. By landmarking your building you will be
eligible for financial help to preserve your building.
Make the Holiday Home Tour a part of your annual
holiday traditions and enjoy the historic community you
can only find in Louisville.
Fee increases will occur in these areas:
• Building Permit Valuation and Fees
• Business License Registration Fee
• Senior Services Membership Fee
• Fees for the Recreation Center and
Memory Square Pool
• Eliminating the Sales Tax Vendor Fee
(vendors currently get to keep this fee)
• Water Utility Fees (1 %)
• Storm Water Utility Fees (25)
In addition to the changes that residents will see, City
staff was impacted by the budget. This included passing
on an increase in medical insurance costs and reducing
benefits.
These cuts are painful. However they are necessary to
keep the City's expenditures in line with available rev-
enue. The City Council and City staff hope you under-
stand this difficult situation and know we are trying to
address the issues proactively.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the numer-
ous meetings on the budget and in the public hearing.
Your comments and suggestions helped us craft a budget
that reflects the interests of the community.
Winter 2009 - 2010 2
