AGENDA DESCRIPTION
Construction and installation of the North Louisville Interceptor
Sewer is proceeding on schedule. The contractor has installed
sewer line from the Wastewater Treatment Plant to South Boulder
Road. The original bid specifications specified that South
Boulder Road was to be crossed with open cut construction and
temporary roadways was to be installed adjacent to the current
South Boulder Road. The project bid in early 1986 identified a
jack and bore whereby the pipe would be pushed under the road and
no disruption of traffic would occur . Due to the high cost on
the original bid, the City eliminated this more expensive item of
work from the rebid project .
Because favorable bids were received on the rebid project , the
City asked the contractor to evaluate additional costs to jack
and bore the South Boulder Road crossing rather than open cut it.
The purpose for this type of construction versus open cut, is
that it provides much greater safety to the motoring public and
exposes the contractor and the City to much less liability. Jack
and bore of the South Boulder Road crossing would also eliminate
the inconvenience and disruption to traffic that is inherent in
an open construction with temporary roadway repairs. The
contractor submitted to the City a Change Order identifying an
additional $3095.00 in project cost in order to cross South
Boulder Road with a jack and bore operation versus a open cut
technique.
