meeting by Council. The current license expires
August 20, 1987.
Perris explained that renewal applications are sent
to liquor licensed establishments 60 days prior to
expiration. The application clearly states that it
must be submitted to the local licensing authority
no later than 45 day prior to license expiration for
approval. This requirement can be waived by the
local licensing authority. If a license is not
approved prior to expiration, the applicant must
apply for a new license and have it reviewed as is
new license which includes processing fees of $450,
a public hearing, posting, publishing and petitions.
The establishment is without a liquor license during
that period of time, probably a period of 45-60
days.
The applicant is requesting Council waive the 45 day
requirement for filing and asks that Council approve
the renewal application.
Mrs. Patricia Stephens addressed Council stating
that she hoped Council would look favorably upon
approval of this license.
Anderson stated that in looking over incidents that
occurred at the tavern over the last year, several
of them are of a serious nature and establishing an
undesirable influence in tt.,a comnkunity. Anderson
asked what steps Mrs. Stephens would take to improve
the problem of serious incidents happening at this
establishment.
Mrs. Stephens stated that she is in the process of
hiring responsible people and would welcome a review
of the license on some type of schedule that Council
may choose. Mrs. Stephens has not been managing the
establishment onsita herself.
Anderson stated that the incidents are serious
enough in his mind to cause the license to not be
renewed. Anderson feels that if Council chooses to
renew the license tonight that it should at least be
reviewed quarterly.
Rautenstraus stated that Council has the ability to
call any license up for review at any time it
chooses. Based on the monthly reports that Council
currently receives from the Public Safety
Department, Council can decide whether to cause a
hearing regarding the appropriate conduct of any
licensed establishment.
7
