Szymanski, Finance Committee Chairman, stated that
the Committee met earlier in the day to discuss this
issue and the feeling of the Committee was that this
type of request is an item of individual preference,
how each Councilman feels about this matter based on
knowledge and feelings of whether this is in the
best interest in the City of Louisville and its
citizens to support or not support this resolution
presented by CML. The Committee feels that this is
not a matter for recommendation, but rather each
member of Council would have to decide for himself.
Szymanski stated that there are always two sides to
every issue and suggested that it might be desirable
to receive more background information from other
parties involved in this deregulation issue.
Mayor Fauson stated the communication services
approached the PUC with this proposal for
deregulation and increases in fees. Hundley
stated that he felt it was more an issue of
commitment and that funding could come when the
proceedings begin. Anderson felt uncomfortable with
committing a contingency funds transfer in 1987 for a
1988 Budget that has yet to be adopted.
Sackett asked if it is a ratter of leadership
considerations on the part of Louisville since the
Mayor is on the Executive Board of CML. Mayor Fauson
stated that this is voluntary and the $50,000
requested may exceed what will truly be needed. Any
monies remaining after the proceedings would be
refunded to each municipality. Mayor Fauson
recommended that the City participate if for no
other reason but to maintain the City•s leadership
position and $652 is a small amount compared to what
can be saved for the citizens of Louisville. CML has
3
