years we've e,itber not raised warter
rates at all or we've raised then
substantially below the cost of
living &M the cost of acquiring the
cost at raw water. We're playing
catch up. I'■ not in favor of the
citizens of Louisville subsidizing
anyone.
Howard: z'■ concerned when the issue of
discrimination is brought up in the
context of diversity of housing.
whit that Roans is minorities in
particular can't afford the housing
stock that ere have. I would hope
that Council steers away from
arguments that have to do with gross
insults to my people, which is that
we cannot afford to live in t.'te city
of Louisville. Concerning the cost
of the water not being paid, Y just
came faro■ a meeting today with the
senior community. Most ore on fixed
incomes. You don't want those
people who have liv*4 her* all of
their lives to have to pay for the
newcomers. what the seniors are
getting out of the growth are paved
streets and increased facilities.
They sho-ildn't get an increased bill
every month. if the City subsidizes
thou, then that bill is pushed off
onto the working families that live
hero. We either put a blanket
increase, in our cost per Aonth,
which will effect the stniors of
this community, which is not
equitable, or we suberidise their
water bills, which is to the
detriment of the other members of
the community, which is also not
equitablo. Let growth pay its own
way. Right now it's not paying its
own way in terms of water.
Sisk: If the fees wont up $4,000.00, we're
talking about $40.00 per month on a
30 year mortgage. S think the
people who build new homes should
pay their own way.
Davidsont A current assessment on water bills,
17
