PAGE TWO
SUBJECT: UPDATE/DISCUSSION - LOUISVILLE HISTORICAL COMMISSION
DATE: JUNE 8, 2010
The Commission asked Museum Coordinator Bridget Bacon to investigate other area municipal
historical museums, which she collected into a table. You have that document
as an attachment. Also appended is a memo Bridget Bacon wrote, outlining the need for
additional storage.
The Commission realizes that funding for the Historical Museum and its staff is very limited at
present. Commissioners also know that without planning, change will not happen. They ask
you to begin to consider, when budgets allow, how the Museum and its collections can be
preserved and made more accessible so that they can be enjoyed by all of Louisville’s
residents and visitors.
FISCAL IMPACT:
A. Grant money for digitizing photographs is available.
B. Staffing costs would be dependent on the number of hours the Museum is open to
the public and services levels. The cost to make the half-time Museum Coordinator
full-time and to add benefits would be approximately $11,500 annually.
C. Architects in 2008 estimated a storage facility located between the Tomeo House
and the Jacoe Store would cost between $200,000 and $220,000.
ATTACHMENT(S):
1.
