It has been recommended that a final decision should be made on the
preferred plaque layout so that the HPC can have a design available when
building owners start requesting plaques for their buildings.

Staff recommends there should be a design for commercial buildings and
another for residential buildings. Here are some other examples:

TRINITY CHURCH

Ne\'....ark.s second oldest house of worship was organized in'~~
the 17305. and t:hartered by the Church of England lforerun- '
ner of the Episcopal Church in Americal in 1746. Part of the
to\...er dates from 1743. but most of the present church wus
built in 1810. It was designed by Capt. Josiah James. a
leading parishioner, in a medley of styles. Trinity was
designated the cathedral of the Diocese of Newark in 19.t4.
It is the nation's oldest Episcopal cathedral building. and
the mother church of many New Jersey parishes. St. Philip's
Church merged with Trinity in 1966. Listed on the National
Register of Historic Places in 1972.

;it
~.' .. THE NEWARK PRESERVATION
..
