LOUISVILLE HISTORIC LANDMARK PLAQUE DESIGN

Design Precedent

Design Intent: Rex Theatre Representation

Soffit & Fascia: The portion representing the fascia is raised to sit at the same level as the added High Pressure Laminate (HPL) Piece, with linework to emphasize the brackets on the
soffit.
Marquee: The marquee is represented by the added High Pressure Laminate piece. Informational text about the historic structure would be provided by the Louisville Historic Preservation
Commission.
The main body text should be between 12 and 14 point font, depending on the amount of text needed to fit. Using size 12 point font, 12 lines of text and approximately 165 words would
fit
in the alloted space. If size 14 point font were used, 9 lines of text and approximately 117 words would fit in the alloted space.
Arch: TIle arch of the theatre is raised with linework to emphasize the lights spaced equally along the raised piece.
Arch Opening: The opening under the arch is the most recessed part of the plaque with raised letters indicating it's status as a landmark
Front Paneling: This portion of the Rex Theater is represented by recessed panels at the bottom of the plaque.
Texture: The base of the plaque, representing the main structure of the Rex Theatre, is meant to be finished with a texture similar to the brick-like texture of the original structure.
The texture has the
integrity to hold the design intent ofrepresenting the historic Rex Theatre even without the addition of the marquee. The piece above the arch is also intended to be textured with a
small pebble
texture to represent the texture on the original structure.
Profile: TIle additional High Pressure Laminate Piece, once set on the plaque would sit at the same height as the fascia and raised cornice. The arch is also raised to bring attention
to the Louisville Land-
mark text, with the portion under the arch recessed back the furthest. Additionally, the panels at the bottom would be recessed back as an aesthetic element representing the architecture
of the
Rex Theatre.
* Our graphic representation uses gradations of gray to distinguish between the frontmost pieces as the lightest colors, to the most recessed areas as the darkest. The text on the High
Pressure Laminate piece
is represented in white to show it's relationship with the plaque. However, when printed on a High Pressure Laminate piece, it would most likely be printed in black. Similarly, the text
beneath
the arch is raised and therefore represented in a lighter color, but it would not have a lighter color than the base of the plaque. (Refer to section)
