Historical Commission
Minutes
May 19, 2010

Carolyn Conarroe. After discussion, the Commission moved, seconded, and carried to
purchase the additional copies of these books for $500.

G. Discussion of possible Fall Festival activities: - The Commission discussed possibly
participating in the parade. Sean Moynihan reported that he has been in contact with Kay
Gazaway and she indicated that the Commission would be welcome to participate in the
parade or have a booth. With respect to a parade entry, Brian Chamberlin expressed that
the goal should be to promote the Louisville Historical Museum because that would lead to
other goals such as promoting memberships, donations, programming, etc. Other members
agreed. The question was raised of whether there is currently a banner with the Museum
name on it. Bridget Bacon offered to check to see if there is an existing Museum banner.

H. Discussion/Direction/Action - Holiday Home Tour: Dan Mellish suggested that the
Commission should soon discuss the Holiday Home Tour because of the impact of the
cutback in the Museum Coordinator's hours from last year. The Commission may want to
put the Home Tour on temporary hiatus and may also want to consider moving it to take
place at a different time of year when there is less competition for people's time and when
the weather is less likely to impact ticket sales. It was noted that at this time last year, the
Home Tour subcommittee was already starting to have regular meetings to plan the event.
Bridget Bacon stated that it is a wonderful community event, but there is a lot of
organizational effort involved in putting it on. She also noted that it is essentially a City
event, and a number of City events and programs are experiencing cutbacks due to the
budget. Diane Marino suggested that it might be advisable to keep the event simpler by not
arranging for refreshments in the homes. Sally Burlingame indicated that it might be a good
idea to consider having the Home Tour in springtime. Colleen Vandendriessche mentioned
that last year, Sam's Club and Safeway were both important donors for the Home Tour,
and they have both closed in Louisville. It was decided that Colleen, Sally, Bridget, and
Beth, and Diane if she is able to, will meet on Tuesday, June 15th at 1 :00 at the Louisville
Library Hecla Room to further discuss these issues. Other Commission members are also
welcome to attend.

XI. Chairperson's Report: Dan Mellish encourage all to attend the Study Session.

XII. Commission Comments: none

XIII. Discussion Items for June 16th meeting: none

XIV. The meeting was adjourned at 8:18 p.m.
