SUMMARY
The applicant requests a finding of probable cause for landmark designation to allow for
funding of a historic structure assessment for 1155 Pine Street.
Staff recommends approval of the request.
ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRITY
The primary structure at 1155 Pine Street is a National folk house, which are associated
with housing railroad workers in general, and have a strong association with mining and
railroad workers in Louisville specifically. National homes in Louisville are often very
simple in their styles, with little or no ornamentation. 1155 Pine appears to be a massed
plan form, given the presence of a second room on the rear of the structure, but it is
unclear whether the rear portion is an addition or original to the structure.
The small gabled awning over the front door present in the 1948 Assessor's Card has
been replaced by a larger metal porch or portico. The siding and windows are not
original.
Above and top right: current photo. Bottom:
Assessor's Card.
3
