COUNCIL COMMUNICATION TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: MALCOLM FLEMING, CITY MANAGER DATE: JULY 13, 2010 SUBJECT: UPDATE/DISCUSSION - PROPOSED REVISIONS TO THE DOWNTOWN SIGN CODE ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: PLANNING BACKGROUND: Over the past three months, Planning Staff has undertaken a review of the Downtown Sign Code. Staff, with the assistance of LRC member Michael Menaker, has led sign code conversations with the Planning Commission and numerous other Louisville boards and commissions. On June 10, 2010, staff presented proposed modifications to the downtown sign code to the Planning Commission. The Commissioners provided feedback and requested staff lead discussions of the proposed changes with the various Louisville Boards and Commissions. th Since the June 10 meeting, staff has led sign code discussions with the Downtown Business Association (DBA) the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC), and the Business Retention and Development Committee (BRaD). The following table provides an overview of the steps moving forward in the review process. Dates shown in grey indicate meetings that have already taken place.
