LOUISVILLE BUDGET 101 <br />If you have an opinion either for or against the possible use tax, if you have questions, or if <br />you have suggestions for additional budget and service cuts, we want to hear from you! <br />Please email your comments to CityCouncil @LouisvilleCO.gov. <br />WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME <br />FROM AND WHERE DOES IT Go? <br />The 2010 City budget is approximately $35 million <br />with funding from the following sources: <br />Charges for Services 35% <br />Sales Tax 30% <br />Property Tax 10% <br />Intergovernmental Revenue 9% <br />Other Taxes 9% <br />Other 5% <br />Licenses & Permits 2% <br />2010 expenditures by program: <br />Public Works & Utilities 46% <br />Recreation, Library, Cultural Services 14% <br />Police Department & Municipal Court 12% <br />Debt Service (library, golf course, water) 11% <br />Administration 6% <br />Parks & Open Space 5% <br />Community Development 4% <br />Governance & Civic Involvement >1% <br />The 2010 budget as a whole is divided as follows: <br />Operations 61% <br />Capital Outlay 8% <br />Debt Service (library, golf course, water)..10% <br />Other Financing Issues 1% <br />WHAT BUDGET & SERVICE CUTS <br />HAVE ALREADY BEEN MADE? <br />Cuts totalling over $500,000 were made in 2009 <br />and 2010, including: <br />• Deferred maintenance on city streets; <br />• Eliminated 4th of July festivities; <br />• Reduced funding for Special Transit services; <br />• Eliminated fall leaf pick -up program; <br />• Discontinued the recycle drop -off station; <br />• Reduced funding for senior meals; <br />• Cut City staff, reduced hours and benefits; <br />• Reduced landscape maintenance and native <br />mowing operations; <br />• Reduced contracted tree pruning; <br />• Reduced contracted weed control; <br />• Eliminated City contributions to the Street Faire <br />and Parade of Lights and reduced funding for <br />the Fall Festival; <br />• Reduced flower planting in parks, entry beds, <br />and at facilities; <br />• Closed the tree branch drop -off site; <br />• Left two police officer positions vacant; <br />• Left one recreation supervisor position vacant; <br />• Reduced janitorial services; <br />• Eliminated Shop Louisville program; <br />• Reduced library book budgets; <br />• Eliminated funding for local non - profit organiza- <br />tions that service the community; <br />• Visit www.LouisvilleCo.gov for a complete list. <br />WHAT IS THE CITY DOING TO ATTRACT NEW BUSINESSES TO TOWN? <br />The City's Economic Development Department works to both attract new businesses to town as well as <br />retain those already here. This includes: <br />• Having regular communications with Wal -Mart and Safeway to find buyers for their vacant properties; <br />• Working with potential purchasers and tenants for vacant commercial and retail properties in Louisville; <br />• Partnering with the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation to show Louisville properties to <br />potential new businesses; <br />• Meeting with existing businesses to discuss the local business climate; <br />• Incentivising both existing businesses that are expanding and new businesses that move to Louisville. <br />Summer 2010 <br />2 <br />
