BRaD <br />Meeting Summary <br />June 7, 2010 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />re-development projects. In Denver, the Economic Development Department is a city operated <br />organization. His organization focuses on the following: <br />1. Retention and Attraction <br />2. Housing Urban Development in distressed areas <br />3. Small Business Advocacy and Support <br />4. Workforce Development <br />The goal is to stimulate and activate prosperity through entrepreneurial gardening, connecting <br />people to jobs, and sustainable communities. For success, access to information, capital, reliable <br />markets and a skilled workforce is critical. Pettigrew discussed the various types of programs that <br />are provided for business retention. <br />Council and Staff discussed with Pettigrew the various approaches for development and catalyst <br />type projects. Pettigrew recommends investment into specific areas to trigger additional <br />investment, strategic planning, and to meet communities where they are. <br />UPDATE – <br />Council will be conducting a Budget Retreat on June 22. Staff will bring forward the <br />Use Tax to Council on July 6. Importance needs to be placed on where the government has <br />become more efficient, that we are good stewards of the City’s finances, and that we need to move <br />service levels back up to levels desired by residents. <br />JUNE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BRIEFING <br />Bonnie presented an overview on the following economic development events: <br /> Post Office Construction <br /> BAP approved Patio <br /> Flowers with Flair moved downtown <br /> Old Friends moved to downtown <br /> Ralphie’s has replaced Beef O Bradys <br /> Davinci Institute leased 5500 SF in Valley Bank building <br /> Hydrogarden retail in Louisville Plaza <br /> Multi- Family potential for Takoda <br /> Imagine Nation Books <br /> Plexus up-sizing and moving to former McKesson building <br /> Zayo and Envysion move to 400 Centennial <br /> Medtronic finishing some space <br /> Colony Theatres Update – Regal Entertainment <br /> Fresca Foods has finished their construction at 195 CT Blvd <br /> Wind Turbine Sales Office moving to CTC <br /> Naxcer Composite moving to CTC <br /> Warehouse for hats needed <br />th <br /> Rocky Mountain Tennis is purchasing land on 96 Street <br />Star provided an overview of the success at ICSC. Conversations were conducted with Wal-mart, <br />Home Depot, Lowes, Sprouts, Albertsons, Walgreens, King Soopers, others. Star also explained <br />the inhibiting restrictions placed on the Walmart property. <br />í <br /> <br />
