<br /> ORDINANCE NO. 888 <br /> -- <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 2 OF THE <br /> LOUISVILLE MUNICIPAL CODE DEALING WITH <br /> ELECTIONS BY ENLARGING THE TERMS OF <br /> OFFICE FOR OFFICERS OF THE CITY TO FOUR <br /> YEARS AND PROVIDING FOR STAGGERED TERMS <br /> FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL. <br /> WHEREAS, under the statutes of the state of Colorado, 1973 <br />C.R.S., 31-4-l07, as amended, a municipality is authorized to provide <br />for four years overlapping terms for the Mayor, members of the City <br />Council and other elected officers; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish four year <br />overlapping terms for said offices. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO: <br /> Section 1 . Section 2.36.010 of the Louisville Municipal <br />Code is hereby repealed. <br /> Section 2 . The following section is hereby added to Title <br /> 2.36 - <br />2, Chapter of the Louisville Municipal Code: <br /> 2.36.010 Elective Offices Designated - Election - Term <br /> - --- <br /> A. The qualified electors shall elect, at the November <br />1987, regular municipal election, and every four years thereafter a <br />mayor, a city clerk, and a city treasurer from the city at large. <br />Such officers shall hold their respective offices for a term of four <br />years, commencing on the first Monday after the first Tuesday in <br />January following their election. <br /> B . The qualified electors of each of the several wards of <br />the city shall elect, at the November 1987 regular municipal <br />election, two city council members from each of the wards. The <br />council member e le c t in each ward receiving the highest number of <br />votes shall hold office for a term of four years; the council member <br />elect in each ward receiving the second highest number of votes shall <br />hold office for a term of two years with each term commencing on the <br />first Monday after the first Tuesday in January following their <br />election. <br /> C. Thereafter, at the next subsequent regular municipal <br />election and at each regular municipal election thereafter, the <br />qualified electors of each ward shall elect one city council member <br />from each of the wards. Said council members shall hold their <br />respective offices for a term of four years, commencing on the first <br />Monday after the first Tuesday in January following their election. <br />
