LOUISVILLE PLANNING COMMISSION
STAFF REPORT
October 8, 2002
ITEM: Amendment of Louisville Municipal Code — Flood
Management Regulations
PLANNER: Paul S. Wood, Planning Director
APPLICANT: City of Louisville Planning Department
REQUEST:
BACKGROUND:
Approval of Resolution No. 26, Series 2002,
recommending approval of an Amendment to Section
17.56.070 of the Louisville Municipal Code
The City of Louisville has been notified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) that a recent re-evaluation of Special Flood hazard Areas (SFHA's) has been
completed as initially identified on the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) issued on May
6, 1996. The revised FIRM map will become effective on October 4, 2002.
The revised FRIM map will incorporate two projects, which were approved by Letter of
Map Revision (LOMR). The pedestrian trail under the BNRR Bridge (9/96), and
Drainageway A Improvements (1/2000).
The City is required to amend its adopted floodplain ordinance as found in Chapter 17.56
of the Louisville Municipal Code (LMC) prior to October 4, 2002, which is the effective
date of the new FIRM map. The scope of the amendment is limited to one revision,
acknowledging the new date of the revised FIRM and Flood Insurance Study (FIS).
Attached Ordinance No. 1400, Series 2002 proposes to amend Section 17.56.070, striking
the June 2, 1995 date and adding October 4, 2002 as the date of the revised FIS and
FIRM.
Due to the need to complete the ordinance amendment by the FEMA deadline of October
4, 2002, staff is requesting that the Commission simply ratify the approved ordinance.
Council approved the ordinance on second reading on October 1, 2002.
