<br /> RESOLUTION NO. 43 <br /> SERIES 1986 <br /> WHEREAS, the Metro Denver peak air pollution season is between <br /> November 15 and January 15 ; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Metro Denver area currently exceeds clean air health <br /> standards for carbon monoxide pollution; and <br /> WHEREAS, Metro Denver residents drive a total of 32 million <br /> miles, the equivalent of 1,285 times around the earth, every <br /> weekday; and <br /> WHEREAS, motor vehicles contribute more than 75% of the carbon <br /> monoxide since high altitude and cold winter temperatures cause <br /> cars to operate less efficiently; and <br /> WHEREAS, carbon monoxide adversely affects everyone's health, <br /> particularly pregnant women, children, the elderly, and <br /> premature infants; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Council of the City of <br /> Louisville that: <br /> l. The Mayor and City Council encourage Louisville <br /> residents, to leave their cars at home on eight <br /> preassigned weekdays beginning November 15; <br /> 2 . The Mayor and City Council ask all drivers to cancel or <br /> postpone non-essential trips on high air pollution <br /> days; <br /> 3. The Mayor and City Council officially support the <br /> "Better Air" campaign; <br /> 4 .
