LL Cityof CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
Louisville AGENDA ITEM 513
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION NO. 9, SERIES 2024 — A
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE FOR
WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT CHEMICALS
DATE: MARCH 5, 2024
PRESENTED BY: KURT KOWAR, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
SUMMARY:
Staff recommends approval of Resolution No. 9, Series 2024 for the purchase of
polymer products used as part of the wastewater treatment process.
The City solicits annual bids for various treatment chemicals for water and wastewater.
One of these chemicals is a polymer product used to thicken wastewater biosolids prior
to hauling offsite. Without the use of polymer the treatment process would be less
effective in removing water from the waste stream increasing hauling costs.
Polymer prices have increased substantially in the last couple of years and staff have
focused on using polymer as efficiently as possible to maintain cost control. For 2024,
polymer expenditures are estimated at $120,000. The attached resolution will allow for
the purchase of polymer and maintain operations at the Wastewater Plant.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The 2024 budget (502472-522010) allocates $145,000 for all chemicals. The remaining
funds will be used for other wastewater chemicals.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends City Council approve the resolution to purchase polymer products at
$120,000.
ATTACHMENT(S):
1.
