Lcityo Louisville <br />MEMORANDUM <br />To: Open Space Advisory Board <br />From: Open Space Division <br />Date: February 14, 2024 <br />Re: Information Item 5: Staff Updates <br />General: <br />1. The OSAB 2023 Acquisition Recommendations have been included in the February, 13, <br />2024 City Council Packet. <br />Natural Resources: <br />1. Staff finalized contract updates for the 2024 grazing season. Grazing acreage has been <br />increased by 30% for the 2024 season and will occur at Dutch Creek, Davidson Mesa, <br />and North Open Space properties. <br />2. Staff is planning for 2024 Earth Day event which will include planting Pocket Prairies at <br />Aquarius trailhead parking lot. <br />3. Staff is developing smooth brome management plots. Staff will be piloting five different <br />methods for smooth brome control as a part of a long-term plan for Western Shortgrass <br />Prairie restoration. Staff will be partnering with Boulder Valley and Longmont <br />Conservation District as well as Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA). <br />Maintenance & Trails: <br />1. Staff have begun installation of the slow zone signs in <br />predetermined locations throughout the City's Open Spaces. <br />2. Staff have begun installation and implementation of trail counters <br />at Davidson Mesa Open Space to collect data on trail use. <br />3. Staff are continuing the work on the Open Space sign inventory. <br />The project is in its initial stages of data collection as far as sign <br />quantities, locations, quality and type. This inventory will help <br />inform a long-term sign replacement programing. <br />4. Staff is updating and finalizing the "Fire Perimeter Mowing" <br />contract for 2024. <br />Resource Protection: <br />1. Senior Ranger White-Patarino has returned from paternity leave. <br />2. Staff hosted the second annual Open Space on Canvas art <br />exhibition at the Louisville Recreation and Senior Center. The event showcased the work <br />9 <br />
