City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />August 10, 2010 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />A special “thank you” was extended to the Louisville Police Department for the <br />excellent job that Sergeant Lanphere and Officer Gordanier are doing to educate <br />owners which the Authority believes has resulted in fewer violations. <br />Update/Discussion – Senior Advisory Board <br />Larry Brassem, Chair of the Senior Advisory Board, presented on behalf of the <br />Board. Other Board members in attendance for the presentation were Carol <br />Purfurst, Vice Chair, Connie Howes, Secretary, Debby Fahey, Claire Floyd, <br />Georgianna Yoder, and Kate Love. <br />Larry Brassem presented a powerpoint presentation covering 2010 <br />accomplishments. This included the work of the Senior Advisory Board as well <br />as committee work on specific issues. Accomplishments include the following: <br /> The Housing Focus Group worked with the Planning Commission to get <br />the concept of visitabilty approved for future housing developments in <br />Louisville. Visitability means having bedroom and bathroom on main floor. <br /> Committed to donate $5,000 on a one-time basis to support the fifth meal <br />at the Senior Meal Site. <br /> Working with Boulder County Aging Services on updating the strategic <br />vision for seniors in Boulder County. <br /> Conduct a silent auction at the Senior Foundation Heat Relief Dinner and <br />collected over $4,000 to support Rec Center scholarships and meet other <br />basic needs for low-income seniors. So far this year, Senior Center staff <br />has given out 29 activity scholarships at $50/piece. 70 checks have been <br />handed out for Heat Relief. <br /> Bloomin Seniors received an Outstanding Program Award for 2010 from <br />the Colorado Association of Senior Centers. The Bloomin Seniors have <br />received lots of positive feedback on the garden at the Rec Center. A field <br />trip is planned to the Denver Botanical Gardens for the group, and <br />possibly working with the youth at the Recreation Center to develop a <br />sensory garden. <br />Larry Brassem thanked the City Council and Staff on working together for <br />Seniors. <br />Council thanked the Senior Advisory Board and appreciates all that they do at <br />the Senior Center to organize activities and provide services. <br />Joe Stevens, Parks and Recreation Director, reported the Senior Advisory Board <br />is a fun and friendly group, and a joy and a pleasure to work with. The Board <br />and City staff members, Katie Beasley and Selena Jaramillo, do great work. <br /> <br />
