of the canal from the maintenance road, and there are a number of other restrictions. <br />The County and City hired LREP in 2002 to evaluate the natural resource values along <br />the canal. In 2003 the Boulder County Regional Trails Committee listed the Feeder <br />Canal as a future trail corridor top priority. In 2004 Boulder County began soliciting <br />input from landowners along the Feeder Canal that own easements or property in fee <br />across the Canal. The County Transportation Department will initiate a broad public <br />outreach process in Spring 2004 to obtain input from adjacent property owners and <br />other interested parties. In addition, Boulder County will participate in the City of <br />Boulder's Feeder Canal Trail planning process being lead by the City Planning <br />Department. If there continues to be positive feedback on the proposal from the public <br />and the NCWCD, Boulder County will begin working with the City of Boulder and <br />Town of Lyons on a draft management plan that may begin to address issues raised at <br />the open houses and meetings with the City of Boulder Utilities Department. <br />2. Underpass at Mineral Road west of 79 Street.- In the past, State and GOCO funding has been <br />applied for but adequate funds for the project have not been secured. <br />Status: In conjunction with County and CDOT intersection and signal improvements <br />planned for the Mineral Road /79 Street intersection, Boulder County Transportation <br />Department plans on constructing an underpass at Mineral Road in Summer 2004. The <br />project will be funded in part by County Transportation Improvement Sales Tax <br />dollars. After scoping with City and County Open Space staff it has been determined <br />that the underpass will be located 1,400' west of the 79 Street intersection allow for <br />direct trail connection between City and County open space properties and provide a <br />critical link in the future Longmont/Boulder (LOBO) Trail. County Transportation will <br />oversee the construction of the underpass and City and County Open Space <br />Departments will be directly involved in the trail planning and construction linking to <br />the underpass itself. Funding assistance for the underpass will be requested from the <br />City of Boulder. <br />3. Underpass at State Highway 93 north of Eldorado Springs. <br />Status: The County has no plans in this area. <br />TOWN OF ERIE (2002) <br />A. Open Space requests: <br />1. East Boulder County Comprehensive Development Plan IGA. Continue to pursue properties <br />identified in IGA. Important for urban buffer and to preserve community identity. <br />Status: Boulder County purchased Palizzi (37 acres), Eddy (39 acres), Becky (355 <br />acres) and Hamouz (20 acres), all in the rural preservation area specified by the East <br />Boulder County Comprehensive Development IGA. The County and Erie jointly <br />purchased the Wise property (73 acres fee interest and 8 acres conservation easement). <br />In 2002, the County purchased the Lutz property (66 acres) on East County Line Road <br />north of Hwy 52 and the Lookout Farm property (40 acres) in the southwest corner of <br />Hwy 287 and Lookout Rd.; both properties are identified as rural preservation in the East <br />Boulder County Comprehensive Development IGA. <br />2. Properties adjacent to anv portion of Boulder Creek and Coal Creek. <br />• One property is south of Mineral Road and just west of County Line Road and contains <br />the confluence of Boulder and Coal Creeks. <br />• The second property is located just south of Kenosha Road as it makes the tum north and <br />Page 2 <br />
