SIMMONS, CITY MANAGER <br />DATE: July 13, 2004 <br />SUBJECT: Discussion /Direction - Louisville Arts & Humanities Council <br />ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: Recreation and Senior Services <br />SUMMARY: <br />The Louisville Arts and Humanities Council, an advisory board appointed by City Council, <br />consists of nine citizens of the City of Louisville. The Arts & Humanities Council is a formal <br />body that is committed to providing quality, low cost cultural events for the citizens of Louisville <br />and the surrounding area. These programs are accomplished with a combination of SCFD funds, <br />City of Louisville funds, community donations, Arts and Humanities Council funds and other <br />collaborative efforts. <br />Throughout the year the Louisville Arts and Humanities Council meets monthly for planning, <br />reviewing and making recommendations to the City regarding art and culture programs. This <br />year, the council assumed a role of making official recommendations to the City for co- <br />sponsorship with other organizations with the City of Louisville. Listed below are the programs <br />and events that took place under the direction of the Arts and Humanities Council over the past <br />year. <br />Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration <br />• Summer Musical Theater program for children <br />• Summer Theater program for children <br />• Summertheater program for the public <br />• Fall and spring silent films accompanied by a live orchestra <br />• Movie in the park program <br />• Fall outdoor hoedown at the Steinbaugh Pavilion <br />• Young Artists Exhibit, a collaborative effort with the Louisville Art Association <br />• Young Writer's Seminar, a collaborative effort with the Louisville Public Library <br />• Lecture Series with international and local speakers <br />• Cultural Cafe for Seniors <br />Discussion/Direction - Louisville Arts & <br />Humanities' Council <br />AGENDA ITEM <br />1 <br />
