Planning Principles <br />Land Use <br />1. Understand the interrelationship of economic development, housing, <br />transportation, parks and open space, community character, public <br />facilities, and utilities decisions. <br />2. The City will continue to promote the vitality of the downtown. <br />3. As developable land becomes scarcer, underutilized commercial and <br />industrial areas will provide opportunities for redevelopment and <br />revitalization, and promote economic growth while preserving the <br />positive qualities of adjacent areas. <br />4. Maintain a compact urban form to use and efficiently. <br />5. Strive to achieve complimentary land uses that promote a fiscally <br />healthy municipality. <br />Transportation <br />1. Provide an efficient, safe, and cost effective multimodal transportation <br />system that provides connections to neighboring and regional <br />residential, business, school, and industrial areas. <br />2. Promote a multimodal transportation system that is compatible with <br />existing and future land use patterns to effectively shape urban <br />growth, while preserving the existing urban amenities and enhancing <br />the image of the community. <br />3. Promote mass transit as an integral part of the City's overall <br />transportation system by providing connections to regional transit <br />corridors, and enhancing existing service within the community. <br />• Policy: Collaboration with transit providers <br />• Policy: Rail <br />• Policy: Rider amenities (shelters, etc.) <br />4. A connected trails system will serve as an important element of an <br />alternative transportation system and provide recreation, health, and <br />fitness opportunities for all Louisville residents. <br />Economic Development <br />1. Retain and expand existing businesses and create an environment <br />where new businesses can be accommodated. <br />2. Proactively support the continued health of the downtown, <br />encouraging business diversity and a complimentary mix of diverse <br />housing through redevelopment and new private investment. <br />3.
