COUNCIL COMMUNICATION TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: MALCOLM FLEMING, CITY MANAGER DATE: AUGUST 10, 2010 SUBJECT: UPDATE/DISCUSSION – LOCAL LICENSING AUTHORITY ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: CITY CLERK’S OFFICE SUMMARY: The following members are proudly serving on the Local Licensing Authority for 2010 – Marguerite Lipton – Chairperson Robert Gunning – Vice-Chairperson John Carlson John Rommelfanger Cecilia Wilson Matthew Machado – Associate Member The Authority continues to review liquor license renewals, changes to licenses, special event permits, and grant new licenses and transfers. Police department reports are evaluated as they are presented to the Authority and hearings are ordered and held as appropriate. Of note this year, the Authority again worked with the Downtown Business Association to modify some downtown businesses to include the addition of the street patios to their licensed premises for the summer months. Tables on City sidewalks outside restaurants along Main Street have been a fixture for many years, always with the understanding no alcohol was to be served there. This year, the City Manager’s Office re-wrote Licensing Agreements and asked the Authority to also look at the policy. The Authority has approved modifying premises for those establishments submitting the proper application materials to allow alcohol service. The Authority would like to recognize the Louisville Police Department for their willingness to not only attend Authority meetings, but to keep the Authority in tune with what is happening in the community with the liquor establishments. Sergeant Lanphere and Officer Gordanier have provided excellent support to the Authority.
