Youth Advisory Board <br />Meeting Minutes <br />9/17/10 <br />Page 2of 3 <br />What is the YAB-What can you expect in the upcoming year <br />Mandy-how meetings will run, purpose of the YAB <br />Mandy-communications policy and open government rules. It is OK to <br />speak one on one about YAB business, but if it is three or more, then it <br />is considered a meeting and there has to be an agenda. For all emails <br />to be sent to the group at large, please send to Mandy for distribution <br />first. <br />You can make more meetings happen, if needed (i.e. sub-committees) <br />Be sure to make your yearly goals attainable and manageable. <br />Discussed going to other boards’ meetings <br />Past YAB Projects have included: <br />Survey to community about a youth center <br />o <br />Volunteer Your Hour project <br />o <br />Poet-a-Thon (Two years) <br />o <br />MusicFest (One festival, two years of planning time) <br />o <br />Recruitment video <br />o <br />Fundraisers: Heritage House, The Backpack Project for children <br />o <br />being put into foster care <br />Discussion of Goals for Upcoming Year including volunteer projects: <br />Daisy-St. Patrick’s Day Dinner <br />Christina-Royal Ball (in February) <br />Brody-something for Halloween <br />Hannah-Heat Relief, def. something for Halloween <br />Kendall-Christmas event at the Rec. Center <br />Brooke H.-Dessert and Story-time with Santa, really should do a food drive <br />(great need in the community) <br />Antonia-community food share and perhaps a soup kitchen? <br />Lucas-go to neighborhood’s and put flyers about a food drive on doors, or leave <br />a paper bag to be filled with food and picked up later <br />Christina-collect extra blankets <br />Brooke-knows people at Balfour’s,will check for events <br />October: something for Halloween, the YMCA? <br />November: Community Food Share <br />December: Dessert and Story-time with Santa, Toy Drive <br />January: Meals on Wheels, Blanket Drive, or soup kitchen <br />February: Heat Relief Dinner, Royal Ball, Daffodil Days <br />March: St. Patrick’s Day Dinner <br />April: <br /> <br />
