Open Space Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />November 12, 2009 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />1. Upcoming Events: COSA meeting is upcoming, 9/13/10 – 9/15/10, in <br />Westminster. <br />2. Education program scheduled for 9/14/10, titled “Our Moon”, 7pm <br />th <br />3. Coal Creek & Rock Creek Trails 20 Anniversary Celebration is upcoming <br />on 9/19/10 <br />4. Trail resurfacing project on Coal Creek- bids are coming in. <br />5. Master Plan contract is in place and Plan focus groups are being <br />coordinated <br />6. Public Works discussion took place regarding better pedestrian crossing <br />at McCaslin Blvd. near Harper Lake <br />7. Prairie dog flushing project at Daughenbaugh Open Space is upcoming <br />and fumigating project at Davidson Mesa & Aquarius also <br />8. Cheatgrass Control Plan is upcoming and was introduced to the Board. <br />The Board moved to support the Plan as introduced after a discussion and <br />a review of similar projects that have produced successful results. <br />Board Updates <br />1. Spencer said that he went out to Boulder County’s grassland prairie pilot <br />area. He said that wheatgrass appeared to be the initial success but that <br />the future will tell what native plants are best for this geographic area <br />when reintroduced. <br />2. Linda mentioned that she has successful native grasses near her home. <br />Discussion Item: Review and Finalize Property Rankings and Map <br /> There was discussion about the natural break between property ranking <br />scores. Tom proposed a grouping scenario for Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III and the <br />scenario was accepted. The adjustment will be added to the minutes. <br />Discussion Item: Open Space Zoning <br /> There was discussion about the various public properties in the City of <br />Louisville and the Board then went through a preliminary criterion ranking <br />process for each of the properties deemed potentially appropriate to be zoned as <br />“Open Space”. <br /> Following the ranking process the Board determined that all the properties <br />colored in yell ow on Ember’s map (Davidson Mesa, Damyanovich, Coyote Run, <br />North, Warembourg, Daughenbaugh, Dutch Creek, CTC, Aquarius, plus all jointly <br />owned properties), along with Harper Lake, Hecla Lake, and Hillside appear to <br />meet the criteria for the “Open Space” zoning designation. <br />Discussion Item: Open Space Education <br />Spencer indicated that he has looked into educational television access <br />opportunities. He is considering how to bring awareness to the Open Space <br />program and is interested in further discussing content pieces. <br /> <br />
