Horticulture & Forestry <br />Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />Thursday, September 2, 2010 <br />Louisville Arboretum <br />900 Via Appia <br />6:30 <br />PM <br />Call to Order—Chair Mike Frontczak called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm. <br />I. <br />Roll Call—Board members present: Mike Frontczak, Kimberly Heestand, Theresa <br />II. <br />Rounds, Matt Tepe, Ellen Toon. Board members absent: Vickie Marra, Meredith <br />Preston-Eddy. Staff members present: Joe Stevens, Dean Johnson, Kathy Kron. City <br />Council member present: Dave Clabots. Guest: Bob Couri of Britina Design Group. <br />Approval of Agenda—The agenda was approved by all members. <br />III. <br />Approval of Minutes—The minutes from the August 5, 2010 meeting were <br />IV. <br />approved. <br />Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda—None. <br />V. <br />Heritage Park renovation—Kathy Kron of the Parks and Recreation Department <br />VI. <br />introduced Bob Couri, who worked on the Memory Square renovation project, and has <br />been retained for the Heritage Park renovation. Lottery funds will be used for the <br />project, which will include improvements in the plaza and retaining walls; replacing the <br />entry stairs; removing raised planters; and removing junipers near entryway. Plant <br />choices were discussed--Kathy stated that the City is using fewer groundcovers in <br />plantings due to maintenance issues, especially weed removal. <br />Arboretum improvements—Dean stated electrical project is now in bid process. <br />VII. <br />Plans include timers, motion sensors, lights and outlets in pergola, and moving the <br />irrigation clock from its current location close to the rec center. Installation will take <br />place this fall. Discussion about plant material (possibly sod) to be installed near <br />pergola to improve general appearance and prepare for use of pergola for events and <br />private gatherings.
