COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: MALCOLM FLEMING <br />CITY MANAGER <br />DATE: NOVEMBER 15, 2010 <br />SUBJECT: UTILITY RATES FOR 2011 <br />ORIGINATING <br />DEPARTMENT: FINANCE <br />SUMMARY: <br />Staff is planning to present a resolution to City Council on December 7 to increase water and <br />wastewater rates by 5% and to increase storm water rates by 25 cents. These rates will be <br />effective on January 1, 2011. This proposed rate adjustment is based on the recommendations <br />of the Water Committee and is included in the 2011 budget as adopted on November 1, 2010. <br />A 5.0% utility rate increase will increase the minimum water billing for each residential account <br />from $10.24 to $10.75. The residential sewer charge will increase from $14.34 per month to <br />$15.06 per month. A 25 -cent increase in monthly storm water fees will increase the single - <br />family fee from $3.00 per month to $3.25 per month. <br />It is estimated that the proposed rate increases will add approximately $182,000 to the 2011 <br />Water Utility Fund revenue, approximately $81,000 to the 2011 Wastewater Utility Fund <br />revenue, and approximately $38,000 to the 2011 Storm Water Fund revenue. <br />Attached is a preliminary draft of the resolution that is scheduled to be presented to Council on <br />December 7. <br />is SUBJECT AGENDA ITEM <br />Utility Rates for 2011 <br />
