Sustainability Advisory Board
Minutes
February 21, 2024
This student group is focusing on HVAC systems in commercial buildings, but will
they also evaluate lighting and refrigeration systems? Kayla replied that they are
focusing on the ages of buildings and potentially reducing the scope of the
project because right now they're researching all 700 brick and mortar
businesses.
Kayla added that the Spring Cleaning Event is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th
from 9.00 AM to 12,30 at Ascent Church. The event is similar to last year, except
that the event is no longer offering vouchers for electric lawn equipment because
of the state's new 30% sale point of sale discount when buying this equipment.
Requests for volunteers to support this event will be posted soon. One LSAB
member noted again that it falls on the same day as Earth Day in Lafayette.
Sustainability Division is hoping that the funds for the discontinued rebates can
be allocated as rebates for other purposes, such as Energy Smart residential
rebates.
Follow-up responses to queries from previous month's meeting
Tiffany commented that she appreciates in the staff update where there is a
section called "January meeting follow up" with answers to questions asked
earlier. The follow up regarding discussion about "LSAB bylaws is included in the
2024 Work Plan in July" was prompted by John's request to add into the bylaws
(and into the online Mission Statement) a phrase to state that "reducing
greenhouse gas emissions" is part of our mission.
Tiffany also stated that Climate Con will be held at CU April 20t". Todd asked that
an EnergySmart rebate update be provided in an upcoming meeting. Tiffany
asked if PACE would consider a heat pump bulking purchasing program for
commercial units. Kayla responded that she will address these comments in the
March staff updates.
