City Council Meeting Minutes March 19, 2024 Page 8 of 14 Leah Bradley, Owner of Eyeworks, stated when the street was closed during the pandemic it was difficult for their patients to get to them. She stated people in medical crisis come each week and not having on street parking near the business is problematic. The closure brought nice community but many other issues. John Leary, Louisville, stated rerouting traffic on streets that are not designed for it impacts the quality of life on those streets. Don McKee, Louisville, stated this closure only gives 3.5 more feet than the patios. It is not very much. He stated that putting the busses on La Farge will create safety issues with kids on bikes and scooters. Main Street is the heart and soul of the town and shouldn't be closed off. Ben Knott, Louisville, stated he supports the temporary closure to create a safe, vibrant, and walkable space for everyone. Steve Rolapp, Louisville, stated parking is already hard to find on La Farge and closing Main Street will only make it worse. The bus should be put on Front Street. He urged a no vote. Graham Jackson, Louisville, stated the alley on La Farge takes a large amount of traffic when Main is closed and it is in bad shape already. He added La Farge has no parking spaces painted on it so when people park poorly the space is not used well. Mary Ann Heaney, Louisville, asked Council to pause the project. She asked if a fire truck needs access how it can get around or through the jersey barriers. Joanna Alidu, Louisville, agreed with others that the parking and the bus issues need to be addressed before a decision is made. Sherry Sommer, Louisville, encouraged a pause in this given all the impacts on the neighbors. Access and safety need to be addressed. She encouraged Council to address the issues before making a decision. Pat Carbone, Louisville, stated parking on La Farge is already difficult and pushing more parking there will make it worse. He suggested a permit parking program. 399 buses per day were not what people were expecting when they moved here. Katie Zoss, Louisville, stated she supports the closure as a way to make downtown more inviting to families and create more space for people. She supports it as a place to crate community. She urged a yes vote. Cyndi Thomas, Louisville, stated she moved here to be able to walk to downtown knowing she would have less parking. She supports the closure and urged a yes vote.
