.rY.rccf. lac. 4 ccz.ca-rrcd
12
4 if
1909 Drumm's Map showing no building on Lots 45 & 46, Block 2.
Angelo and Josephine [Massoni] Mossoni Ownership, 1914-1920
Appolonio "Angelo" Mossoni (1875-1931) and his wife Giuseppina "Josephine" Taboni (1871-1941) were
born in Breno, Provincia di Brescia, Lombardia, Italy and emigrated in 1907 with their oldest daughter,
Rena (1904-1908). The Mossonis travelled to the U.S. from LeHavre, France to New York. Passenger crew
lists for the ship La Lorraine list their destination as Denver and Louisville, so it is likely they already had
family members living in the area. The name Mossoni is occasionally spelled Massoni as shown on
census records and property deeds.
By the time of the 1910 census, Angelo and Josephine Massoni were living in an unnumbered house on
Jefferson Avenue, next door to Domenico Rotolo. They are living with their daughter Rena (age 5) and
son Aquino "Keno", age 2. It is possible that they were renting the house on lots 45 & 46 until 1914 when
they purchased the land from Domenico Rotolo. Angelo worked as a coal miner in Louisville but by 1920,
the Massoni family had moved to Frederick.
Angelo and Josephine Massoni with daughter Rena and son Aquino "Keno" c. 1909.
11
