WCilt>F <br />Lo;vint <br />Parks & Recreation <br />To: Recreation Advisory Board <br />From: Katie Beasley, Senior Services Supervisor <br />Date: 5/20/2024 <br />Subject: Senior Services Program Update <br />Purpose: <br />The purpose of this agenda item is to update the board on the Senior Services Program. <br />Memorandum <br />Background <br />Senior Services offers programs that encompass a wide range of services aimed at supporting the well- <br />being, health, and quality of life of our 60+ older adults in Louisville and surrounding areas. Overall, <br />senior services programs play a crucial role in promoting health and independence of older adults by <br />addressing diverse needs and providing supportive resources and services. <br />General Programs <br />Our general programs include a list of daily drop -in offerings including computers, and a lending library. <br />Weekly we have Bridge, Mah Jongg, Quantum (Songs & Instruments), Scrabble, Samba, Board Games, <br />Loving Hands Crafters, Choir, Lattes, Technology Help and an Art Club. Monthly we offer a Book Club, <br />Senior Cinema, and Blood Pressure Checks. <br />We also offer Lifelong Learning programs including How to play Bridge, Mah Jongg, Texas Hold Em, <br />Painting, Spanish, Quilting, Tap Dancing, Line Dancing, & Tai Chi. <br />Our Health & Wellness programs include classes on Whole Brain Living, Meditation. We offer Massage <br />Therapy as well as Soul Massage. <br />Special Events <br />Senior Services offers many special events throughout the year. Our typical annual events include a St. <br />Patrick's program, a Community Plant Sale, an Older Americans Month Celebration, a Summertime <br />Picnic, Ice Cream Social, Wellness & Resource Fair, Thanksgiving Feast, Holiday Luncheon, and the Tree <br />of Warmth. <br />We have also have other events including an Elvis Impersonator themed event, a Holiday Cookie <br />Exchange, Art Show, a Senior Program Open House. There's also a monthly Game Afternoon led by a <br />volunteer Game Host. <br />Day Trips <br />Since our last update, we have promoted Tricia to 40 hours/week. With the 10 extra hours being used <br />to coordinate the day trip programming. The day trip program has continued to take the seniors to <br />many wonderful places. The Buddy Holly Story @ Boulder Dinner Theatre, Snow sculptures in <br />Breckenridge, Colorado Avalanche games, the Scottish -Irish Festival, Louisville PD tour, the Capital <br />Building, the Casino, Brown Palace Tea & Tour, Blossoms of Light, Rockies Game, Pikes Peak Cog <br />Railroad, Sunday Swing Supper, Wild Animal Sanctuary, Denver Mob Tour, Fall Leaves in Cripple Creek, <br />Hammonds Candy, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Coors Field Tour, CSU Spur, Mother <br />Cabrini Shrine, Celestial Seasoning Tour, NCAR Mesa Lab, Film on the Rocks, and so much more. <br />
