~ ÉÆ0ÈÊÉÊ ÈÇ coordinate agenda items with Lafayette. One item on the agenda will be the ‘One Book’ initiative for 2011. This joint meeting is part of the Board’s list of goals for 2011 to learn what other libraries in the area are doing with respect to issues and trends. B.Library User Survey A review of past meeting minutes indicated that the first goal of the project is for the data mining team—identified as Nisa, Sandy, Meredith, and Alicia—to review existing Library and other relevant data and information and to report findings to the Board. This work has not yet been completed, but will be ready for review by December 1. Sandy reported that she has again talked with the DECA leader at Monarch High School and the group is very excited about being involved in the survey process. The teens may serve as a focus group or they may administer surveys at various locations. Once the Board determines the scope and focus of the survey, DECA’s role can be defined. The overarching question to be addressed is how to make the library user experience better. Two lists of preliminary questions—one geared to users and the other to non- users—will be prepared by Alicia and Jeannie for Board review. Sandy will work on some questions specifically addressed to Superior residents. At the 13 January 2011 meeting, the Board will discuss and select questions. Methods of survey delivery will also be evaluated, as well as how best to use the DECA group. VIII.Director’s Report A.Statistics Monthly Use Measures were distributed for review. Beth noted that YTD circulation is up 11% and visitors are up 4%. Although the number of programs has decreased 9%, program attendance is up 7%. B.Budget Beth noted that the 2011 recommended budget she submitted included funds for an automated materials handling (AMH) system. City Council wanted more information on the AMH; on October 12, Beth made a PowerPoint presentation to City Council. Proposed Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) for the coming year include a new monument sign for the Museum, as well as shingle repair/refurbishment for Museum buildings. C.Upcoming Events Beth noted that in October the Library Gallery is featuring an exhibit of handmade quilts by Library staff/family members. For October and November, there is also a Museum exhibit on display in the Gallery’s glass cabinets entitled, “Who Do We Think We Are?” that comprises photos and artifacts of some of Louisvilles founding families.
