Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
December 13, 2010

Muckle stated she believed landscaping around a landmarked structure should be
reviewed on a case by case basis.
Lewis stated she did not want the Old Town District to become an HOA. She does not
believe landscaping should be a reviewable element for a landmark.
McCartney added landscaping does not require a building permit. Commercial
landscaping is the only landscaping reviewed by staff. Residential landscaping is not.
Koertje stated he agrees with Lewis in that the regulatory language speaks towards
landmarking specific elements and not the entire site unless the landmark specifically
establishes landmarking the property.
Stewart inquired how additions, which are less than 50 years old, should be handled.
Should these additions be required to have an alteration certificate?
Koertje recommended the HPC put more thought into this item and bring it back to
another meeting.
