Planning Commission
Meeting Minutes
October 14, 2010

Loo apologized to the neighbors for the process and the impact. She continued
by stating any location selected would have issues. The primary issue should be
public safety and not on the views.
Sheets stated if the item is continued then she would want to have additional
information about each of the alternative locations.
Lipton asked if the Commissioners agree the siren is needed in the community.
Sheets stated she is not in a position to determine that.
Loo stated that with any disaster notification you need redundant systems.
Lipton stated there is no debate about need. He asked staff if the item is
continued will it move forward to City Council.
Russ stated it would not.
Lipton asked if it is denied does it go forward.
Russ stated it would.
Sheets stated her support for a continuance.
Lipton asked what other information the Commission would need at the next
hearing.
Sheets asked if they were going to consider only this location or other alternative
locations.
Lipton stated staff should bring back other siren locations as well as additional
information about the three locations at this specific site.
Sheets stated only those that met the criteria should be discussed at the next
hearing.
Lipton stated he feels the Commission can only look at this location and not other
locations for this application.
Pritchard stated he would like to have a representative from the manufacture
attend the next meeting.
Goodman stated the manufacturer is not local so it could be difficult to have a
representative attend but he will do what he can to get someone present.
Pritchard stated if the manufacturer cannot then perhaps a sound specialist.
Lipton asked if the County would have a sound specialist.
Goodman stated he would inquire with the County.
Loo stated she would like to know the cost to the City for relocation to any of the
sites.
Goodman stated the cost would not be great, especially if the City already owns
the property.
